Raplacing the Voltage Regulator

The battery kept discharging, and it was new, so I figured that probably the voltage regulator was dead. The top of the regulator looks like it has been hit repeatedly over the years:



Here is what the outside looks like. I don't think this is original, but I also think that as long as you get an older regulator for one of many AMC and GM vehicles with generators in the 50s and 60s with 12v negative ground, they are pretty similar. Please read our terms of use. Note that the application list for the VR20 includes many vehicles. I used a regulator that was actually an equivalent to the VR20 (that is equivalent to a Delco-Remy). Anyway, here is the old regulator:
