Carter Carburetor Repair - Part1

The carburetor on our Rambler leaked gas out of the top of the pump plunger. It appears that this was the cause of the smoke coming from the engine when it warmed up. Very scary. I looked up Model RBS Carter on an auction site, and found a new carburetor at a good price. The listed model number didn't show up, and I figured it was worth the chance because the carburetors looked identical. Here are the carburetors side-by-side:



At this point, I figured that the specific RBS model was actually listed on the side. The old carb appeared to be a version 1520:



The new carb appeared to be a version 1746:



As you can see, most everything is the same on these two:



Both have a choke valve that looks like this:
